Walking passed by a small store in Diamond Plaza, I saw "Now Hiring" sign, and my heart lifted. As I entered, I saw two workers in the kitchen, and I was hoping to get this chance. "Excuse me, I saw the 'Now Hiring' sign, and I would like to apply for this job," I told the employee. "No," she said, "you have to know Mandarin. You know, Mandarin Chinese? It is required to speak it." I swear, I was about to talk back in Mandarin Chinese, but I was afraid that once she answered, I would failed to understand her, so I spoke in English, "Actually, I know some Chinese and currently learni-" and stopped short since she was shaking her head. My heart dropped and wish I learned a lot more Chinese to be qualified for this job. Honestly, I don't even know what she just did was part of discrimination. Is it because of my race? Is it really because I can't speak Chinese? Those thoughts were rushing in my head for the next 30 minutes and decided to just forget it and move on to look for different job. When I went to Puente Hills mall with Jessy, I confronted and asked Round One, Bath and Body Works, Victoria's Secret, etc. None so far. Most of them said, "We're not hiring, but we're accepting applications." I don't see a high chance of just turning in application when they're not currently hiring. Still, I took the applications. As you can see, I'm frustrated already since I was job hunting for the past 4 days. "Bad time of the year to hire, isn't it?" I asked one nice employee at Anchorblue. "Oh yes, bad time of the year," he said. Argh. Maybe I'll start looking again in a month or so. I miss school now.
On a brighter note, I'm looking forward to a good weekend (: maybe ice skating, Black Swan movie, and Jessy's birthday plan ^^
